What is Giving Tuesday?
GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving, now active in over 60 countries, fueled by the power of social media & collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following #BlackFriday and #CyberMonday, #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their end-of-year giving.
On Dec 1, 2020, join the #GivingTuesdaySA movement and give – whether it’s your time, a gift or the power of your voice. It’s a simple idea. $518M was raised in 24 hours globally in 2019, and whether you come together with your family, your community, or your company, find a way to give back.
GROW Educare Centres and Giving Tuesday: Because you give, we can give.
Thanks to the generosity of people like you, we can give children and teachers the support they need to unlock their potential. On Giving Tuesday we’ll show individuals and organisations how their generosity equips GROW and the women who run our ECD centres to GIVE in truly impactful ways.
10 Ways to get involved and give back on Giving Tuesday:
INDIVIDUALS
#1 Give your voice to support and share an important mission
Society is hungry for role models and stories of hope. The early learning sector is under-valued in our society and needs to be prioritised and celebrated. Use your voice on social media, email, in meetings and in face-to-face conversations to talk about the value of early learning, to share positive stories, and to talk about how you give (time, resources, or skills). Share what’s important to you, where you give and why.
To support and share stories of impact from GROW educare centres, you can
- Sign up for our emails here
- Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube or LinkedIn and share our posts
#2 Give your support when you shop

#3 Give your money
Use #GivingTuesdaySA as the day you give financially to a cause that is meaningful to you. Whether you give up your take-away coffee for the day, sell your old items for cash to donate, sign up to give monthly, or make a once-off donation, it’s time to be generous. Share with your friends, family, and networks about where you gave and why.

#4 Give your game when you host a virtual Livestream
Gamers, show your support by hosting a virtual lifestream for charity on GivingTuesday. Raise funds for GROW Educare centres, make your mom proud and show your gaming talents all in one go! Simply add the widget code to your Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) such as your Twitch in order to display your GivenGain fundraising project donations in real- time while live-streaming online.
Here’s how it works. GROW Educare centres is a registered charity on the international GivenGain donation platform, which means any gamer or other live stream host can fundraise for our cause by embedding the free widget.
#5 Give your time to fundraise for a cause that is special to you

#7 Give your clout by getting involved on #GivingTuesdaySA
It’s never too late to start planning or get involved in #GivingTuesdaySA. Reach out to GROW Educare Centres and let’s partner to make sure you don’t let the opportunity pass you by.
#8 Give your employees match-fundraising opportunities
Give your employees an opportunity to give towards something they care about. Leverage their passion and skills to make even more impact on #GivingTuesdaySA. A common way to get involved is to challenge them to give/fundraising and you match all of their contributions. Employees could form teams, pool resources and funds, and get creative for a purpose while building comradery.
#9 Give feedback to highlight your annual giving
Show employees and customers how you give throughout the year. If giving back is part of your company’s DNA, then let your investments shine on Giving Tuesday through press releases, emailers and employee engagement.
# 10 Give global teams a chance to support local
If you are a global brand or company, use the global #GivingTuesday movement as an opportunity to connect and build relationships. A global campaign could have massive impacts for local organisations (for example, featuring GROW as your South African beneficiary helps to build our credibility internationally, which is valuable for our fundraising efforts).
