Hello friends,
Wow! Thank you for your incredible support thus far during the COVID-19 lockdown. We sincerely appreciate your willingness to share the heavy burden of hunger relief, your encouragement and messages of support, and every single donation. We couldn’t have done this without you.
We’re over 40 days into lockdown and our communities are very worried. Hunger is escalating. Many are unsure how they’ll pay rent, buy electricity or feed their family. Shockingly, we’ve also seen and heard of food parcel donations that are unhygienic and disrespectful. The poor have pride too! It’s a precarious situation. We need to act fast and with great care.
The appeal for hunger relief has been overwhelming and we have responded, thanks to your support.
In the past 3 weeks:
- over 1480 food parcels handed out
- over 898 food vouchers delivered
- 9 512 people given food for a week
- 1000kg of mushrooms delivered to soup kitchens
- Over R600 000 raised for hunger relief (our target is R1mill)
Who has benefitted?
Children, the elderly, community feeding projects and families from impoverished communities who are hungry and have no or insufficient income, as a result of COVID-19.
What’s next?
Hunger isn’t going away yet. With the extension of lockdown hitting informal traders and vulnerable communities the hardest, the need for consistent hunger relief remains essential. We’re redoubling our efforts and extending our reach to more community soup kitchens and vulnerable families across the country.
