Take action. Inspire change. Make every day a Mandela Day.
Mandela Day is celebrated on 18 July every year. It is an opportunity for individuals and organisations to take collective action in a meaningful way – and leave a legacy – in honour of Nelson Mandela. How can you make a difference on Mandela Day? What can you do on Mandela Day 2021?
We focus on three of the Mandela Day goals
- Provision of quality education for all children.
- All children in Early Childhood Development (ECD) to have access to learning resources for development.
- Eliminate malnutrition and stunting in young children.
We call on you to be an active citizen in your community, individually, as a team or organisation, to help ECD Centres across South Africa.
Here is how you can get involved in Mandela Day 2021:
1. Equip ECD classrooms with essential reading books
100 classrooms each need a set of books.
R1 250 equips us to give a set of 10 books to 1 classroom. R125 helps us to give one book. |
We’ve identified 10 books that every happy South African classroom needs!
How to take action for Mandela Day:
- Donate a book set: Make a donation online.
- Host a reading morning: Purchase a collection of books from your local book store and host a reading morning at a local preschool! You could read, dress up, host a puppet show – anything that makes reading fun. Please arrange in advance with our Fundraiser.
- Previously loved books: If you donate second-hand books, we will distribute these on your behalf. Please deliver to our office.
- Teamwork: Purchase the collection of books (or multiple sets!) and host a plastic-wrap-day at home or the office, where you wrap the books in plastic and write a special message on the inside front cover. Please deliver your books to our office or a preschool during July (please arrange in advance).
2. Ensure a child has a healthy breakfast for the year
Together we can feed young learners across the country a delicious fortified breakfast porridge every school day! All funds raised will go towards our feeding programme at Early Childhood Development centres in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Pietermaritzburg.
R550 feeds 1 child for 1 year.
Up to 2 136 children attend our preschools daily. |
How to take action for Mandela Day:
